Writing Challenge Day #4
Write about someone who inspires you.
This one should be easy. I recently read the biography for Thomas Monson, who currently serves as the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has a long history of service to others, including family, friends and strangers. He has taken the time to get to know others, and not on a superficial level. He strives to understand their concerns and then works to understand how he can help them. He spent a lot of time in East Germany before the wall fell and worked to bless those behind the wall.
President Monson is a wonderful story teller when he speaks and this is in large part because of his life of service. He shares personal examples of overcoming trials and hardship as well as service because he has spent a lifetime living them. He has also focused on helping others, as mentioned above.
I would love to be able to look back over my life and think of all the people I have been able to help, burdens I have lightened and tears I have dried. This is why I feel that Thomas Monson is truly someone who inspires me. I think that at the end of it all, our lives will be measured not by our accomplishments per se, but more by the positive differences we make in the world. I've always felt that we underestimate the influence each of us can have in the lives of others. And the interesting part is always how these changes play out over the years.
