Writing Challenge-Day #9
Post some words of wisdom that speak to you.
There are so many different words of wisdom that I have learned from and that have helped me grow. I'll choose a newer one, a story that I just saw.
There are spots along the Mississippi river where tug boats push large cargo barges between cities. Although the river is very wide at some points, it is also very shallow, except for a channel of water in the middle of the river. This channel is marked with red buoys on one side and green buoys on the other side. The captains of the tug boats need to keep their cargo running between the buoys to keep them safe.
Recently, two boats were going to pass each other along the river. One of the tug captains thought they were running too close to each other so he went wider than he should have, he went outside the buoys. And what happened? He got stuck in the mud along the shallow part of the river and had to get another boat to rescue him and his cargo.
How does this apply to us? It may seem very obvious to some of you and what I will share is my interpretation. You may have your own.
Throughout life, we have rules, restrictions and commandments that act like the buoys. We go along the river of life with a narrow channel of safety where we should travel. Outside of this channel, the ground, the circumstances we will face are unpredictable and can be dangerous. The buoys are not there to take away freedom, but to allow us to fully enjoy our experiences of life. There are others who have gone before us along the river of life and clearly marked out where the safe path lies so that we don't need to run aground to figure it out. We just need to listen to the smarter people who traveled the path before us.
Stay within the buoys. Listen to the rules and follow them. Learn from others who are smarter and more experienced than us.
Any words of wisdom from you?
