Nauvoo family vacation
This past week we used the kids spring break to go on a family vacation to Nauvoo, Illinois. We wanted to travel here for both family and our church history. Both my wife and I have ancestors who lived in the area and as we looked into the records down here, they likely lived here at the same time and would have probably known each other. It's interesting to see how our ancestors lived and left here over 160 years ago, both moved to different area's of Utah, settled eventually in southern Alberta and then we met. Very neat to see these connections.
We were able to locate records that showed us where some ancestors were buried, owned land, the jobs they had and that one of them was even the first to cross on the frozen Mississippi when the Mormons were chased out of Nauvoo. We had the opportunity to attend the Nauvoo temple with our older boys and spend time there as a couple.
We traveled to Carthage and Quincy, Illinois for more history and even got in on a community easter egg hunt.
All in all, a pretty good trip with lots to see and learn.
