Big changes afoot

So now that all the proper people have been notified in the proper way, it can be public knowledge. I will be ending my full time employment with my current employer and beginning work with a new health region. I will still be employed in my current field, but in a different hospital with some major changes.
A few months ago, we moved out of the city to an acreage. My commute now takes 50 min one way. And this is to the nearest hospital where I work. When I pick up at the other hospitals, it can take up to 1.5 hours one way to get to work. Recently our health region had announced big changes, including closing the units where I work in a few of the hospitals. This would force me to move locations and work full time at the more distant location, adding 60 min per day on to my regular commute.
As it turns out, (and I won't go into great detail) a full time position came open in the hospital that is minutes away from my house. The timing couldn't be more perfect. No surprise, I applied and was given the job. A big aspect of this was the fact that it is a Monday-Friday day job. I've been married 16 years and have never worked a day job. I've worked shift work of some type or other my entire working career while married.
With my kids getting older, I have the opportunity to coach, volunteer or just attend after school activities. This has always been a challenge when I work shift work, because my schedule is always so inconsistent. Well, no more. I will be off every day at the same time and will be able to be there for the kids.
This is HUGE! Probably more so for my wife, but I am looking forward to the change. Plus, with the new job being only 10 min from my house, I can go back to commuting on my bike full time which I had to give up when I moved to the country. I've always supported change in those who work with me. And I certainly feel supported in this move. It will be sad to leave so many great friends and co-workers, but this is the right change for me and my family.
On to new adventures.
